Electrical and Refrigiration
Electrical and Refrigeration
In the Electrical Department we have interesting training programmes such as Electrical Instrumentation, Digital Electronics and Refrigerant Management. These training programs like other programs in our department are on high demand as they are tailored to meet challenges of changing technology.
Our students easily fit in industry on graduation due to the availability of facilities such as well-equipped electronics laboratory, electrical and refrigeration workshops. The students are trained in programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and control systems. We also have the latest Siemens Logo Trainers, and this versatile logo unit can be programmed using a computer or on the logo module itself and it is installed with simulation software which allows trainees to test the functionality of their programes before implementation.
With regard to current environmental issues we are aware that many industries and operators in the formal and informal sectors handle and repair refrigeration equipment which is still using Ozone Depleting Substances. It should be noted that NORTEC is the only centre accredited by Environmental Council of Zambia to conduct training in Refrigerant Management under the auspices of the Environmental Council of Zambia.
The Electrical Department under the Refrigeration and Air-conditioning section, conducts short intensive training programes for Industrial and Informal sector operators, in the management of Refrigeration and Automotive air conditioning systems, to control the use of Ozone Depleting Substances in accordance with regulations No. 27 of 2001 Part II ODS. Regulation 11(2) states that any technician repairing or servicing any technology that contains or uses controlled substances should have a certificate issued by the Environmental Council of Zambia (ECZ) after undergoing the intensive training, failure to which is liable to prosecution.
It is our policy to offer our students training in entrepreneurship to encourage self-reliance and job creation. We look forward to having you join us.
