Nortec Receives Excavator for Student Training

Northern Technical College has been Zambia’s flagship institution in the provision of engineering training in the last 50 years. The college has built a solid reputation of offering dynamic courses and producing skilful graduates who are equipped with hands-on abilities designed to meet industry needs and contribute to the socio-economic development of society.
This year, NORTEC is expected to further augment its reputation as a top-notch provider of dynamic courses and quality hands-on training thanks to the arrival of more state-of-the-art training equipment.

On 21st December 2017, Volvo Construction Equipment of Sweden delivered a modern excavator machine to help boost training in Heavy Equipment Repair/Engineering at Northern Technical College. The arrival of the excavator signifies the achievement of another key milestone in the quest to position the college among institutions with the calibre of a centre of excellence.
And speaking when he received the equipment on behalf of the college, NORTEC principal, Mr. V. Mulenga eulogised the partnership between the college, the Swedish Government and Volvo Construction Equipment. He observed that the partnership had lived to the expectations of stakeholders. He further declared that the gesture would enable the NORTEC realise its vision of becoming a leading engineering institution in technical and vocational training in the region.
Meanwhile, the coming of the excavator has also cheered the students. The students are optimistic that the quality of their training as well as confidence to perform in industry would be significantly enhanced by the arrival of the excavator.

And speaking during the same occasion, NORTEC Training Manager, Mr. M. Kasonso observed that the delivery of the excavator was a dream come true for the college which seeks to become a leading engineering institution in technical and vocational training in the region.
Meanwhile the head of department for Auto/HER has challenged the lecturers and students to fully utilise the technologies present at the college to keep themselves abreast with industry occurrences.
In recent years, HER, Automotive and Electrical workshops have undergone a fundamental transformation courtesy of support from GRZ, the Chinese government, Swedish government and other partners.
