Automotive and Heavy Equipment Repairs

Recent developments in Motor Vehicle industry both light duty and heavy duty has posed a great challenge to Motor Vehicle engineers, technologists, technicians and artisans

The department offers training programmes in Automotive and Heavy Equipment Repair at technician levels. It has two sections which are run by senior lecturers.

The automotive section is specialized in small and light vehicles, whereas the heavy equipment section is specialized in earthmoving machinery which is normally used in industries such as mines, agriculture, construction and transport.

The Department has qualified lecturers and well equipped workshops and laboratories to ensure students are academically and practically prepared to graduate from the college with the right skills and knowledge. Apart from traditional programmes the department also runs short courses. In the recent past, we have offered short courses in mobile hydraulic, pneumatic , power shift transmission for earth moving machinery, fuel systems, power units and heavy equipment electrical and electronics for companies such as Zambia Sugar Company, Konkola Copper Mines, (KCM) and First Quantum Mining Division, (FQM).

This year the department has introduced a direct entry diploma programme in Automotive Engineering. The course is tailored to expose students to current technological trends.

Further, the college has introduced a six (6) months Heavy Equipment Repair bridging course for Automotive Technicians, with the view to provide opportunities for multi-skilling and address the growing demand for technicians.
